The Angels - find out more

Pope Francis in his homily of 2 october, tells us: "God has placed beside each of us a guardina angel who supports us, defends us, accompanies us in life"

It is precisely to the mission of "ambassadors of God" of the holy guardina angels that the Pope recalls on 2 october, the day of their liturgical feast.

We could add:

✔ The angel is an intelligent creature who has no body. He is a pure spririt.

✔ What is their function as angels? let us listen to St. Paul : They are "spirits destined to serve, sent on a mission for the good of those who are to inherit salvation" (He:1,14).

What are their roles ?

They watch over all men (Tb:3,17; Ps:91.11; Dn:3,49).
They present their prayers to God (Tb:12,12).
They preside over the destiny of the nations (Dan:10,13-21).
They explain to the prophets the meaning of their visions (Ezek:40,3f; Za:1,8f).
They are called sons of God (Job;1,6; 2,1; 38,7. Gen:6,1-4).

Do you know the 3 archangels ?

The archangel Michael, mentioned in the Book of Daniel (Dn 10, 13.21) and in the Apocalypse of Saint John (Rev 12,7), is the prince of the angels, victorious over Satan in the battle of the end of time; his name means “Who is like God?” ".

The archangel Gabriel announces the coming of the Messiah to the prophet Daniel (Dn 8:16; 9:21), to Zechariah and to the Virgin Mary, during the Annunciation (Lk 1:11-38). His name means “God has shown himself to be strong”.

The archangel Raphael appears to Tobias (Tb 3.17; 12.15), whom he takes “under his wing”, delivering him from his illness and casting out the demons in his daughter-in-law Sarah; known as “God heals”, he is the benevolent figure of God’s Providence.

The angels of the portal of the last judgment of Notre-Dame de Paris

At the lower lintel of the portal, the dead rise again and emerge from their graves. The angels sound the trumpet. These characters include a pope, a king, women, warriors, and an African man.

On the upper lintel, the Archangel Michael weighs the souls and two demons try to tip the scales. The elect are led to paradise (to the right of Christ) while the damned, chained and terrified, are led by other demons to hell.
