Three souvenir medals of Notre Dame Cathedral in a beautiful box; a wonderful gift idea from this historical and spiritual landmark. Made in France.
These souvenir medals of Notre-Dame de Paris are symbolic objects that allow believers and enthusiasts of art and history to keep a tangible memento of this iconic monument in Paris. This beautiful box, consisting of a selection of 3 pieces of gold-plated metal souvenir medals, will enrich your collection or make an ideal gift.
After being carefully designed and sculpted, the metal sides of goldsmithery are stamped and cut to shape. The Notre-Dame Cathedral of Paris is an iconic place in the city and of Christian faith. These medals aim to remind of the importance of this historic site.
These three medals represent the following:
The Virgin and Child: This medal represents the Virgin and Child, also known as the Our Lady or "Virgin of the Pillar ," located at the entrance of the choir of Notre-Dame. This Virgin dates back to the 14th century. Initially venerated in the old Saint-Aignan chapel on the Île de la Cité, it is integrated into the facade of the cathedral to replace the Virgin destroyed during the revolution, before being placed by Viollet-le-Duc in the transept of the building, on the right side, where there has always been an altar dedicated to Mary. The statue is then prayed to under the name "Notre-Dame de Paris."
Notre-Dame de Paris Western Facade: On the front side, the facade of Notre-Dame. The construction of the west facade began in 1200 under the episcopacy of Eudes de Sully. Its construction is the subject of great attention, as it combines several functions: the entrance for the faithful, the entry of west light, shelter, and the sound diffusion of the bells in the towers.
The Cathedral with a View of the Chevet: A view of Notre-Dame taken from the chevet side, against a starry sky.
