After being carefully designed and sculpted, the metal sides of goldsmithery are stamped and cut to shape. The Notre-Dame Cathedral of Paris is an iconic place in the city and of Christian faith. These medals are a reminder of the importance of this historic site.
These three medals represent the following:
The Virgin and Child: The Virgin with child on this medal, also known as Virgin of th Pillar or Notre-Dame, stands at the entrance to the cathedral choir. This statue dates from the 14th century. First venerated in the ancient Saint-Aignan chapel on the Île de la Cité, it is integrated into the facade of the cathedral to replace the Virgin destroyed during the revolution, before being placed by Viollet-le-Duc in the transept of the building, on the right side, where there has always been an altar dedicated to Mary. The statue is then prayed to under the name of "Notre-Dame de Paris."
Notre-Dame de Paris Western Facade: On the front side of this medal, the facade of Notre-Dame. The construction of the west facade began in 1200 under the episcopacy of Eudes de Sully. It is the subject of great attention, as it combines several functions: the entrance for the faithful, the entry of west light, as well as shelter and the sound diffusion of the bells in the towers.
The Cathedral with a View of the Chevet: On this medal, a view of Notre-Dame taken from the chevet side, against a starry sky.
