Flip Book Notre-Dame

An original Flip Book about our beautiful cathedral, Notre-Dame de Paris. This flip book, also known as a folioscope, is an original book format. Flipping through the pages reveals a scrolling image if you do it quickly. Flipping through the pages allows you to see an animation between the images. This flip book is a new edition including the devastating fire of 2019 (front) and the impressive restoration (back). 

Through an enriched narrative, it retraces in images the epic story of the cathedral's construction, punctuated by captivating anecdotes and significant events. It can be read like a classic book, both illustrated and instructive. 

On the front, the Flip Book offers a dynamic, chronological reconstruction of the building of Notre-Dame, beginning with the laying of the first stone in 1163 by Pope Alexander III. The evolution of the building site, illustrated from the chevet with the Seine in the foreground, spans the centuries right up to the present day, including the famous restorations carried out by Viollet-le-Duc in the 19th century.

Overleaf, a detailed animation of the façade gradually reveals, page by page, the architectural elements that make it up, from the foundations to the tops of the towers. The sequence ends with a visual summary of the major stages in the restoration work undertaken after the disaster.
