It wasn't until the end of the 13th century that the master builders continuing this immense project began to be mentioned in chronicles. Among them, history remembers the names of Jean de Chelles, Pierre de Montreuil, Jean le Bouteiller, and, much later in the 19th century, Jean-Baptiste-Antoine Lassus and Eugène Viollet-le-Duc.
