The rosary is a prayer object resembling a necklace of beads, composed of five sets of ten beads, called "decades." Each decade is followed by a single bead.

Before the heart of the rosary, which features the image of the Blessed Virgin, a saint, or a Christian symbol, there is a cross and five beads.

These beads are used for reciting the "Hail Mary" prayer.

The recitation begins with the sign of the cross, followed by "I believe in God," "Our Father," three "Hail Marys," and "Glory be to the Father." It then involves the recitation of one "Our Father," ten "Hail Marys," and one "Glory be to the Father." The recitation of the decades is accompanied by contemplation of the joyful, sorrowful, glorious and luminous mysteries of the life of Christ.
