This medal represents the Virgin and Child, also known as the Notre-Dame or "Virgin of the Pillar." It was located at the entrance of the choir of Notre-Dame Cathedral.

This statue of the Virgin dates back to the 14th century. Initially venerated in the former Saint-Aignan chapel on the Île de la Cité, it was integrated into the facade of the cathedral to replace the Virgin that was destroyed during the revolution. Later, Viollet-le-Duc placed it in the transept of the building, on the right side, where an altar dedicated to Mary had always been located. The statue is then prayed to under the name of "Notre-Dame de Paris," and it was near this location that the writer Paul Claudel suddenly converted on Christmas Day 1886.
