The Glory Cross

In 1993, Cardinal Lustiger had the Glorious Cross by Marc Couturier executed and erected. The Cross dominates the Pietà of the former high altar. This large cross is visible from the entrance of the cathedral. It casts a luminous hope over the entire building and gives a living completion to the mourning of the Virgin.

Entirely hand-embroidered in a very ancient artisanal technique following ethical values related to fair trade, this decoration is handmade and personalized for Notre-Dame de Paris Cathedral.

The decoration is created with yellow fabric and richly decorated with brilliant gold trims, highlighted with beautiful pearls, and features a central pearl of deep blue. A unique souvenir or gift throughout the year and a splendid Christmas decoration.

Created following ethical values related to fair trade, this decoration is handmade using the traditional Indian embroidery technique called 'zardosi.' It has been specially designed for Notre-Dame de Paris Cathedral.

The workshop specialized in the creation of hanging decorations. All these decorations are handmade, and the time required for each of them reflects their unique quality.

For over 30 years, the workshop has been working in partnership with a small charitable organization in Thailand that helps women find profitable activities within their rural community instead of leaving their families to work in the city.

Today, nearly 200 women work from home to assemble and sew these decorations. The workshop is proud to be a member of BAFTS (British Association of Fair Trade Suppliers) and supports the 10 principles of fair trade, as indicated by the World Fair Trade Organization.
