The construction of the western facade began in 1200 during the episcopate of Eudes de Sully. It continued with Bishop Guillaume d'Auvergne, counselor and confessor of Saint Louis. The construction was completed with the northern tower in 1240 and the southern tower in 1250. Several architects succeeded in its realization. The construction of the western facade was meticulously planned, as it serves several functions: the entrance for the faithful, the entrance of western light, the shelter, and the sound diffusion of the bells in the towers.
