One of the most beautiful cathedrals in France
The construction of the cathedral began in 1163, with the laying of the foundation stone by Pope Alexander III, on the remains of a pagan temple and a large Christian basilica. Two hundred years later, the construction was completed. Built in the traditional Latin cross plan, Notre-Dame de Paris is dedicated to the Virgin Mary. It has a nave and a choir with ten and five bays, respectively.
The nave, which can accommodate up to 3,000 people, houses the most prestigious French organ (with five keyboards, 113 stops, and nearly 8,000 pipes). Its imposing Gothic western façade is dominated by two large square towers that reach a height of 69 meters. The three portals depict the Last Judgment, the Coronation of the Virgin Mary, and Saint Anne.
Heavily damaged during the massive fire on April 15, 2019, we need your support to continue the restoration work.
