The liturgical choir is dedicated to religious ritual. It comprises four rectilinear bays closed by a five-sided semicircular apse. It has the same elevation as the nave. It has a double ambulatory, as in the nave.
The Virgin and Child, in relief on this magnet, dates from the 14th century. Initially venerated in the former Saint-Aignan chapel on the Île de la Cité, it was incorporated into the cathedral's façade to replace the Virgin destroyed during the French Revolution, before being placed by Viollet-le-Duc in the building's transept, on the right-hand side, where an altar dedicated to Mary had always stood. The statue was then prayed to under the name of "Notre-Dame de Paris", and it was just a few steps away that writer Paul Claudel suddenly converted on Christmas Day 1886.
